River Rejuvenation, Patiala
This unique development is for two rivers—Choti Nadi and Badi Nadi. Our design approach embraces the natural features of both rivers, creating spaces for leisure, conservation, and flood mitigation. Choti Nadi is planned as an accessible public leisure park, while Badi Nadi will serve as a conserved green buffer and forest, preserving the riverbed’s natural ecosystem.
One of the main challenges was addressing the flooding issues in the low-lying residential areas along Choti Nadi. We mitigated this by redesigning river sections, constructing bunds, and transforming the slopes into active spaces for the community. We incorporated dedicated pathways, cycling tracks, and pause points, all connected by interlinking bridges, creating a harmonious space for leisure and activity.
For Badi Nadi, the emphasis is on conservation, with dense native planting that not only allows water percolation but also acts as the green lungs for the city, promoting biodiversity and resilience. This sustainable design brings together the best of urban development and ecological preservation, offering the community a balance of engagement with nature and flood management.
