This project centres on the rejuvenation of a canal, turning it into a biophilic, sustainable public space that highlights water conservation and biodiversity. The design allows the canal to handle floodwater during heavy rains, with natural systems intercepting and slowing water flow while encouraging evapotranspiration. A permeable canal base supports water percolation, aided by a water-holding tank further downstream.
Planting was a key element, with moisture-tolerant species selected to manage rainwater and adapt to fluctuating water levels. Native plant varieties were chosen for their ability to thrive in both wet and dry conditions, enhancing biodiversity and creating a connected ecosystem for local wildlife. Grasses were used to stabilise slopes, ensuring resilience against flooding, drought, and invasive species. This project integrates nature into the urban fabric, creating a natural and sustainable landscape that enhances the surrounding corporate campus.
